About

Design a Game is a place where you find references and material for aspiring / learning game designers. This is a work in progress; we review game design litterature, publish game reviews from a game design perspective, review game design and development tools. We use and freely mix blog posts, podcasts and slideshows.

So we’ll talk about the entire process of game design through blog posts on mockups and prototyping, on design and development tools, and with a podcast with discussions, reviews and interviews to game designers.

This site is focused on tools and ideas for creating videogame mockups and prototypes. Due to the complexity of videogames, creating mockups and prototypes is probably a good idea that can save a lot of time. Game ideas, rules and mechanics need testing for feedback and balance, and prototypes allow testing without the cost of complete games productions.

We write and talk about games and game design, but of course videogames are an excuse to talk about ideas, history, science, psychology, economy, literature, storytelling. This is not about FPS techniques.

Pietro PolsinelliPietro Polsinelli: I am a game and more generally UI designer and software developer; you can find me on Twitter here where I post links to what I study and create. My full profile here.

Most of the material I will publish here is collected for the courses and workshops on game design / game development / engaging UIs which I do from time to time. I am available for consulting on game design / production, and on making UIs more engaging. I work as software designer in Open Lab, where we produce lots of wonderful sites and applications. My e-mail is ppolsinelli@gmail.com

I wish to thank Laura Mirri and Pino Panzarella for help on designing the site, and Stefano Cecere on maintaining it until 2015.
